Equal Opportunity to Shine

Australian children have very unequal opportunity to learn a new language in school.

Some reasons children miss out include:
  • No specialist teacher available 
  • A mistaken belief that children cannot learn any language in less than 600 hours
  • Learning difficulties in English
  • The class is learning a language they speak already (see below)
This deprives many children of a source of self-esteem, the cognitive advantages of bilingualism, and a chance to get involved in the global community.




Not every child in the class is Greek but....

 It is an equally valid identity for every child and empowers them to embrace other identities, which may not apply to all class members, later.
